The OU neurology residency was founded in 1972.As of 2024, the program is approved for 32 positions, eight each year, postgraduate year (PGY) 1 through PGY 4. The OU Department of Neurology and its faculty members are dedicated to the education, growth, and career guidance of its residents. The result is a comprehensive, competency-based curriculum that blends an extensive and innovative didactic curriculum with equally extensive and varied clinical experiences.
The goals of the OU neurology residency program are:
- To provide resources and opportunities for each resident to achieve excellence in the 6 ACGME competencies
- Patient care
- Medical knowledge
- Practice-based learning & improvement
- Interpersonal & communication skills
- Professionalism
- Systems-based practice
- To ensure that each resident, by the time of graduation, achieves the ability to function independently as a neurologist
- To empower each resident with knowledge and strategies that promote well-being and prevent burnout
