The Dean McGee Eye Institute (DMEI) is dedicated to serving all Oklahomans and the global community through excellence and leadership in patient care, education and vision research. DMEI is one of America’s largest and most respected centers for medical and surgical eye care, providing more than 220,000 annual patient visits from all 77 Oklahoma counties and the surrounding region, and performing over 10,000 major surgical procedures each year. In U.S. News & World Report’s 2023-2024 survey, DMEI, in affiliation with the University of Oklahoma (OU) Department of Ophthalmology, was ranked 8th in the nation among academic eye centers affiliated with a public university and 22nd overall. In the latest Doximity survey of ophthalmology residency programs, DMEI/OU was ranked 7th among public institutions and 16th overall. DMEI/OU is regarded as one of the top vision research institutes in the country securing more than $2.8 million in National Institutes of Health funding in FY23 and is eighth among public universities (#16 overall) in cumulative funding from Research to Prevent Blindness in its most recent annual report.
