The NICU at Oklahoma Children's Hospital is the state’s premier academic center for newborn intensive care.  All faculty members pursue clinical or bench research activities, with a wide range of scholarly interests mirrored by a diverse and multi-faceted research agenda. In addition to single-center studies, we reach out beyond our NICU to establish cooperative joint projects with national and international researchers.

Dr. Edgardo Szyld, MD, MSc
Director of Research

Dr. Edgardo Szyld serves as the Director of Research for the section of Neonatal-Perinatal medicine. His extensive experience in designing, organizing, conducting and analyzing multicenter clinical trails, combined with more than 30 years of successfully mentoring medical trainees, fellows and faculty in research make him an invaluable resource for leading all section faculty, trainees and staff in all aspects of basic and clinical research, from project design through peer-reviewed publications. Dr. Szyld has developed and supervises both a robust research training program, as well as an extensive team of research specialists to assist faculty researchers. Together, these initiatives allow researchers to gain the knowledge needed to successfully design, conduct and publish basic and clinical research and provide them with the support staff needed to make their research both feasible and cost-effective.
