This is a two year residency program.  The applicant must have an MS or PhD in medical physics from a CAMPEP accredited graduate medical physics program.  Applicants who have a PhD and have graduated from a CAMPEP-accredited certificate program may also be considered.  Inital funding (salary plus benefits) for one year renewable for year two only contingent upon satsifactory job performance and University established policies.

There is one position in the Radiation Oncology Medical Physics Residency Program each year on a competitive basis.

Salary

Salary will be commensurate with educational training.  Presently, first year trainees with an MS degree will earn $53,220; trainees with a PhD will earn $58,220.  Salary will be paid to each resident on a biweekly basis.  Checks for salaries are issued by the central payroll office of the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center and are distributed by electronic direct deposit.

Insurance Benefits

The University of Oklahoma offers a flexible benefits plan authorized by Section 125 (Cafeteria Plan) of the Internal Revenue Code. Eligible employees receive an allowance of benefits credits, also called Sooner Credits. These credits represent the amount of money the University pays to provide benefit-eligible employees with the following core insurance benefits:

  1. Medical Insurance (Employee and eligible dependents)
  2. Basic Dental Plan
  3. Life Insurance (1.5 times annual base pay)
  4. Accidental Death and Dismemberment (AD&D) Insurance ($20,000 policy)

Long Term Disability Insurance – Provided by the College of Medicine to all residents. The benefits are paid at 60% of monthly salary. Benefits start after you have been totally or partially disabled for 90 consecutive days.

In addition to the University provided core insurance benefits, employees and their dependents have the option to participate in other benefits available at the employee's cost. These include:

  • Dependent Dental, Life, and AD&D Insurance
  • Supplemental Employee Life and AD&D Insurance
  • Employee and Dependent Vision Insurance
  • Short Term Disability (employee only)
  • Flexible Spending Accounts

A compensation based contribution system is in place for medical insurance which provides benefits for residents and eligible dependents. Medical insurance coverage begins commensurate with the date resident begins term of appointment. Employees may pay for medical, dental, life insurance, AD&D, and vision with pre-tax dollars. Annual Leave

Residents receive 15 days of vacation per academic year, 15 days of sick leave per academic year, and up to 5 days of educational leave.

Family Leave

Federal law mandates that, after one year of University employment, qualified employees may take up to 12 weeks of leave (available paid leave and then unpaid leave) during any 12-month period for (1) the birth of a child; (2) the placement of a child for adoption or foster care; (3) the care of a spouse, parent, or child with a serious health condition; and (4) a serious health condition that makes the employee unable to perform the employee’s job functions. The University will continue to pay the cost of the University-provided insurance coverage for residents for the 12 weeks of FMLA protected leave. The residents will continue to be responsible for payment of premiums for any elective coverage. It is the resident’s responsibility to contact Human Resources to determine premium payment requirements.

Maternity/Paternity Leave

Available sick leave, annual leave time, or leave without pay may be used in accordance with the Family Leave Act guidelines as described above. Specific questions should be addressed to the Program Director.

Eligibilty Requirements for Training

Employment at the University of Oklahoma as a resident or fellow is contingent upon meeting the following requirements which may be modified from time to time as required by state and federal laws, and/or as necessary to protect the health and safety of the Institution’s employees and patients:
 
  • Verification of credentials as applicable to appointment as a resident or fellow, including the completion of a background check
  • Proof of full COVID-19 vaccination or accommodation for exemption from the Federal requirement
  • Proof of compliance with health and safety requirements as required by the College of Medicine and its affiliated clinical institutions
  • Required online trainings
  • Current visa sponsorship as applicable
