The University of Oklahoma Radiation Oncology residency program is a four-year ACGME accredited program that received continued accreditation with commendation in 2024. Accepted residents will begin training at the PGY-2 level, following the completion of an internship at an ACGME accredited program of their choice. This is in accordance with the American Board of Radiology requirements for board eligibility.
Our department is located in the Stephenson Cancer Center at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center campus. We also provide services to the VA Medical Center located within walking distance of the cancer center.
The residency program is approved for six resident positions and currently employs seven full-time and two part-time Radiation Oncology faculty physicians. Each faculty physician specializes and performs research in a specific disease site(s). Residents will rotate equally amongst each faculty throughout training, allowing them to receive expert oversight and education while being exposed to a wide variety of malignancies and treatments. Residents will receive exposure and practice radiation oncology utilizing numerous treatment modalities including LINAC based external beam radiation therapy techniques (2D, 3D, IMRT, VMAT), intensity modulated proton therapy (the only pencil beam IMPT in the state), total body irradiation, Gamma Knife SRS, Brain and body stereotactic treatments (SBRT/SRS), various brachytherapy procedures (low and high dose rate brachytherapy, cervical and endometrial brachytherapy, eye plaque, prostate seeds), and the use of unsealed sources.
The Stephenson Cancer Center is one of the most beautiful cancer centers in our nation and is the top center for NCI-sponsored trial enrollment. Our dedicated faculty and commitment to the advancement of science continue to further our department rapidly and progressively each year. Our residents receive a thorough education combined with a very broad technological exposure during their training.
We are very excited by what our training program has to offer you, and welcome and look forward to your continued interest.
