Committee Charge

The Collegiality and Well-Being Committee will:

  • Promote a culture of respect of and cooperation among our providers
  • Provide tactics and resources to address the expanding demands on health care providers in the ever-changing practice environment.
  • Facilitate confidential peer-to-peer support related to adverse events.
  • Serve as a knowledgeable provider resource group to facilitate positive change.

Composition

The Collegiality and Well-Being Committee is co-chaired by two voting member(s) of the OUP Council and will include a broad representation of providers from across the practice settings of OU Physicians. Current co-chairs are Dr. Rachel Franklin and Dr. Jason Lees. Dr. Lynn Mitchell, OU's Chief Medical Officer and Chief Wellness Officer, is actively involved in the committee leadership as well. It will be administratively staffed and facilitated by the Professional Liability, Patient Safety & Risk Management office, and the office of Faculty Affairs & Professional Development. 

Scope and Responsibility

The OU Health Physicians Collegiality and Well-Being Committee will explore, implement, maintain and monitor areas relating to provider wellness and prevention, provider burnout, collegiality and professionalism interactions not rising to the level of provider impairment or disruption, confidential colleague support following referral related to adverse events, as well as serve as a resource for administrative/technological tools to impact the ease of practice efficiency.

Goals of Committee

  • Perform baseline and regular interval surveying of the provider population to quantify issues, concerns, and current status as it relates to provider burnout.
  • Research, propose, and implement appropriate changes in the clinical environment to address key issues.
  • Research, propose, and implement appropriate non-clinical interventions to address key issues (exercise options, targeted educational programs, etc.)
  • Identify key personnel, internally and externally, that can serve as resources for those desiring assistance (behavioral health, financial, spiritual, etc.)
  • Provide regular education to OU Health Physicians providers regarding signs/symptoms/preventive methods to combat burnout and promote wellness.
  • Be proactive in addressing issues prior to symptom development.
  • Establish and implement tools and tactics to modify unprofessional provider interactions and enhance professionalism.
  • Make available trained colleagues to confidentially assist in a supportive role following adverse events.
  • Assemble and serve as a resource for administrative and technological solutions to assist in day-to-day efficiencies, both clinical and operational.
  • Offer positive interventions to modify the work environment as well as the provider’s environment as a whole.
  • Coordinate with hospital committees and leadership to provide opportunities across the enterprise.
