OU Medical Center listed among 100 Great Hospitals in America

OU Health - University of Oklahoma Medical Center

University of Oklahoma Medical Center is the only comprehensive academic hospital in the state and serves as Oklahoma’s only ACS verified level one trauma center. This downtown campus provides primary health care to a large number of Oklahoma residents, but also is a tertiary care referral center for many of the surrounding rural and community hospitals. A state of the art, new patient tower opened in 2020 and provides approximately 450,000 sq ft of additional space, 144 additional inpatient beds (all ICU capable), and 32 new operating rooms. The original tower holds 355 adult inpatient beds, 78 ICU beds, and four additional dedicated trauma operating rooms. The trauma department, alone, had over 5800 trauma activations in 2020 and over 13,750 surgeries were performed throughout all departments. University of Oklahoma Medical Center is the primary training facility for general surgery residents at the University of Oklahoma.

Oklahoma Children’s Hospital

Oklahoma Children’s Hospital OU Health is a 314 bed, stand-alone hospital focusing on the care of women and children. It houses Oklahoma's only ACS verified pediatric level one trauma facility, 14 operating rooms, and state-of-the-art pediatric, neonatal, and cardiac intensive care units. Approximately 9,700 operations take place at the Oklahoma Children’s Hospital with about 2,700 being pediatric surgical procedures. Residents will experience the Children’s Hospital during both pediatric surgery and plastic surgery rotations.

OU Health Stephenson Cancer Center

Stephenson Cancer Center is Oklahoma’s only National Cancer Institute (NCI) designated cancer center. It was recently named Oklahoma’s top facility for cancer care by U.S. News & World Report in its 2020-21 rankings. Stephenson Cancer Center also ranks #1 among all cancer centers nationally for the number of people participating in NCI-sponsored clinical trials. General Surgery residents get exposure to this world class facility during rotations in breast oncology, surgical oncology, thoracic surgery, colorectal surgery, and head and neck oncology. Stephenson Cancer Center is located on the University of Oklahoma Health Science Center’s campus and is within walking distance to the University of Oklahoma Medical Center.

 

 

OU Health - Edmond Medical CenterEdmond Medical Center - Orthopedics | Medical Services in Oklahoma

OU Health Edmond Medical Center has been a cornerstone of the Edmond community for more than 70 years. Edmond, Oklahoma is a small community approximately 15 miles north of downtown Oklahoma City. This facility benefits from being a full-service community hospital with direct affiliation to a large tertiary referral center, the University of Oklahoma Medical Center. General Surgery residents spend at least 4 months at this facility and cultivate their skills in endoscopy, minimally invasive and robotic general surgery, bariatric surgery, as well as thoracic and colorectal surgery.

 

 

Cancer Care - Comanche County Memorial HospitalComanche County Memorial Hospital

Comanche County Memorial Hospital (CCMH) is located in Lawton, Ok, approximately 100 miles southwest of Oklahoma City. CCMH provides comprehensive and advanced healthcare to citizens of Southwest Oklahoma. General Surgery residents spend 1 month during the third year of training at CCMH. The surgery department at CCMH provides robust robotic, endoscopic, and surgical training.
