Our lab studies mechanisms of immune regulation in retinal degeneration. We previously reported the protective roles choroidal gamma delta T cells in both acute and chronic toxicity models of the retinal pigment epithelium (RPE). One of our current projects is to examine how RPE relays the signals from choroidal T cells to subretinal microglia. In addition, we are also studying RPE-derived extracellular vesicles as an intercellular communication mechanism in modulating microglial function
