Meet the Residents

Nate Cantrell, MD
Radiation Oncology

J. Nathan Cantrell, MS, MD

Radiation Oncology Resident, PGY 5

I was born in Florida and grew up in Tennessee in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains. I attended the University of Tennessee and worked at Oak Ridge National Laboratory studying radiation detection systems while earning my degrees in Nuclear Engineering. After deciding to pursue a career in Radiation Oncology, I completed medical school at East Tennessee State University James H. Quillen College of Medicine and then completed an internship in Internal Medicine at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center. My professional interests include resident education, SBRT/SRS, emerging treatment technologies, and palliative radiation. I enjoy treating all disease sites especially central nervous system malignancies, lung cancers, cancers of the head and neck, and gynecologic brachytherapy. In my free time, I enjoy outdoor activities with my wife and two dogs, SEC football (Go VOLS), attending OKC Thunder games, and Italian cuisine. Stephenson Cancer Center at OUHSC is an excellent place to practice Radiation Oncology, and we get training on nearly every imaginable radiation treatment modality.  As an NCI designated institution, we have a plethora of clinical trials to offer patients, and we also have a great volume of pediatric patients through the Jimmy Everest Center for Cancer and Blood Diseases in Children.
