Christopher S Candler, MD, EdD
Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs
Dr. Christopher Candler serves as the Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs for the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine. He oversees all aspects of the MD and PA programs including admissions, student affairs, the curriculum, support services, evaluation, and accreditation.
In addition to obtaining a Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Oklahoma, Dr. Candler obtained a doctorate in higher education from the University of Arkansas. During his twenty-six years in medical education he has served in a variety of administrative and leadership roles and has been an active member of the national medical education community.
Dr. Candler served as the founding Editor-in-Chief of the Association of American Medical College’s MedEdPORTAL journal, as a Field Secretary for the Liaison Committee on Medical Education, and as a member of the Peer Review Corps for the Higher Learning Commission. He has conducted twenty-four national medical school accreditation visits.
Dr. Candler has received over one million dollars of funding from national granting agencies for his work in medical education. He has authored over forty education publications in books and refereed journals that address a variety of timely medical education issues. His projects have been featured in Academic Medicine, Harvard Medical International and the journal Science. Dr. Candler’s achievements have been recognized through a David L. Boren distinguished professorship and awards from the University of Oklahoma Regents and the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education.
