Dr. Kanagala  completed his medical education at Osmania Medical College in India obtaining his M.B.B.S in March of 1999.  He then did his internship in ​internal medicine in New York and moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin where he completed ​​residency at the Medical College of Wisconsin in April of 2006.  After completing his residency, he worked as an ​assistant professor and hospitalist at the Medical College of Wisconsin through November of 2007. It was at that time that he moved to Oklahoma City to work as a hospitalist in hepatology for the Nazih Zudi Transplant Institute at Integris Baptist Medical Center.  He moved to the Oklahoma Transplant Center at OU Medical Center in April of 2010 where he was the Assistant Director.  He was part of a liver transplant team that started the Liver Transplant Program at OU Medical Center.  In July of 2013, he started his fellowship in gastroenterology at the University of Oklahoma feeling the experience would be beneficial for him to provide care for his patients.  Upon completion of his fellowship, he became an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of Oklahoma as well as maintaining his position at the Oklahoma Liver Transplant Center.  Dr. Kanagala is a member of 4 national societies: American Association for ​the ​Study of Liver Diseases (AASLD), American Society ​for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE), American Gastroenterological Association (AGA), and the American College of Gastroenterology (ACG).

Dr. Kanagala has further serve​d ​our community, since 2013, by volunteering as a physician at the Good Shepherd Ministries Free Clinic.  He has a special interest in chronic HBV and HCV infections, autoimmune liver diseases and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).
